Deep South Metal Detecting Hunt - February 2025
This was a two-day outing with about 10 club members. The goal was to revisit a site where we had been before that had a Civil War battle, camp site and plantation site on it. This property is soon to become developed, so time was of the essence. Unfortunately, there had been too much rain in the weeks leading up to the event for the equipment to get out and clear the property as we had anticipated. This did give us one advantage. There was great moisture in the ground which made for easy digging and good depth on signals. Day one the weather held up very nicely and lots of great discoveries were made. Day two brought heavy rain at times and some of the group chose to brave the storm and were rewarded with more great finds. Some of the highlights included: Over 140 fired and dropped Civil War bullets of different types, several Union military buttons, a number of old coins including Seated Liberty dimes and a half dime, a plow damaged Union Eagle Breast Plate, and lots of other Civil War and plantation artifacts. Enjoy the pictures - note this was not everything found.
We chose purple as the background in honor of Mardi Gras!
